Walden
Never Summer Nordic
Colorado State Forest State Park
Walden, CO, 80480, United States
The Asian plains may be thousands of miles away, but that’s no hindrance to spending some time in a yurt at this year-round Rocky Mountain retreat. Set atop decks for security and made of wood and canvas, these small, circular structures are equipped with the basics (such as cook stoves and dishes) and offer a different kind of mountain accommodation in the nearly 71,000-acre State Forest State Park. During the winter, yurts like the Clark Peak Yurt are used as “base camps” for backcountry skiers; and in the summer, the Grass Peak Yurt offers a launching point for mountain bikers.
Room to Book:
Dancing Moose doesn't require any hiking to reach and is wheelchair accessible (request assistance in advance).
Insider Tip:
In the winter, be sure to check the status of highways; the snow could close down the Highway 14 access route.
