Aqua Lotus Honolulu
Honolulu, HI, United States
Tucked between lush Oahu’s Kapiolani Park and the lava slopes of Diamond Head, the 51-room Aqua Lotus Honolulu, which opened in July 2011, has a refreshingly residential feel. The expansive lobby, accented by Asian-style chaises and ottomans and strewn with velvet pillows and flickering candles, feels like an oversize living room, complete with wind-down cocktails (complimentary wine is served from 4 to 6 p.m.). Upstairs, 50 spacious rooms on 12 floors have private lanais and large marble bathrooms. While not set directly on the sand, Aqua Lotus has a walking path to wide Sans Souci beach next door, plus beach chairs, mats, and towels—a welcome touch on a public beach. An on-site bar and restaurant will open in mid-2012.
Room to Book:
Room design is identical in all categories, but for the best views book one of the 10 Ocean View Premium rooms, which are corner units on higher floors; each opens onto two lanais.
Insider Tip:
Take advantage of the hotel's eastern Waikiki location and take an early morning hike to the extinct volcanic crater atop Diamond Head. Depart the hotel by 7:30 a.m. and follow the 1.6-mile trail to the lookout (it takes about two hours round-trip).
