Hotels in Vietnam

When the trade embargo was lifted in the 1990s, Vietnam saw an influx of international hotel developments, although you will still find fewer chain brands and monster resorts than in neighbors like Thailand and China. Vietnam hotels run the gamut from luxury spots like the Park Hyatt Saigon and the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi – a stunning, half-historic, half-modern property that has played host to everyone from Bill Clinton and John McCain to Mick Jagger – to the sleek Nam Hai resort, considered one of the best hotels in Vietnam. French architect Reda Amalou helped design The Nam Hai's 100 minimal-chic villas, which are spread out around the expansive beachside property; there's also a world-class spa, pan-Asian dining, and complimentary shuttles to the UNESCO World Heritage Site town of Hoi An.

In charming Hue, the design and feel of La Residence Hotel & Spa, set along the Perfume River, pays homage to the building's former life as the home of French Colonial governors.  Other top luxury brands like Banyan Tree and Six Senses also have resorts in Vietnam; the former has an establishment along the East Sea, while the latter has two locations, in the Con Dao archipelago and in Ninh Van Bay.
