Vienna
Tirolerhof
Travelers hurrying through a visit to Zoo Vienna might easily miss the 1722 farmhouse that houses what is arguably the best restaurant in the zoo. The Tirolerhof, located on a hill to the left of the elephant enclosure, was transferred from Tyrol piece by piece, and it is surrounded by enclosures housing various breeds of farm animals. The ground floor of the building has a small shop selling meats and cheeses, as well as sandwiches with fillings like ham and bergkäse cheese, alongside other traditional Austrian fare.
Insider Tip:
Don’t miss the small glass enclosures located at the bottom of the building. They house baby chicks and rabbits.
