Austria's first "pharmacy restaurant" opened in November 2006 under the moniker Saint Charles Alimentary. Located in the Mariahilf district of Vienna and part of the Saint Charles Apotheke across the street, the small space seats only 10 people but offers a diverse menu of native herbs and plants hand-selected from known growers. Even meats are procured straight from the wild. Head chef Philipp Furtenbach only uses the freshest local ingredients to create dishes that are healthy and pleasing to the palate: wild root soup and a salad of lentils and artichokes stand out. Seminars and cooking classes are also offered.
