The first in Vienna to offer wines by the glass (a Riedl glass, anyone?) this tiny yet groundbreaking wine bar is well known among locals and yet could easily be overlooked by the average passerby. Though tucked in a passageway near St. Stephan's cathedral, Vis-a-Vis is anything but inconspicuous as over 300 varietals beckon wine enthusiasts inside to browse the labels of predominately Austrian vintners. Celebrities, politicians, and other people of distinction have been known to cross the threshold to raise a glass.
You aren't likely to find a 20th-century bottle here. Instead, newer wines are celebrated at Vis-a-Vis, where a bottle from just ten years ago is described as "old."
