H.R. MacMillan Space Centre

1100 Chestnut St.
Vancouver, V6J 3J9, Canada
TEL: 604-738-7827

Situated in waterfront Vanier Park, this educational center houses interactive space-related exhibits that include a virtual voyage to Mars, a touchable moon rock, and computer programs that enable visitors to maneuver a lunar robot or see what they might look like as an alien. Opened in 1968 as the H.R. MacMillan Planetarium, the space center shares a Gerald Hamilton-designed building with the Museum of Vancouver. In addition to the exhibits, the center features nighttime viewings at the Gordon MacMillan Southam Observatory—home to a Cassegrain telescope—as well as astrology programs and weekend laser and light shows in the planetarium.

Insider Tip:

On weekdays, call ahead to make sure there are no school trips going on; when classes visit, the center’s shows either stop running or run at odd times.
