329 Columbus Ave., Between 75th and 76th, New York, NY 10028

On almost any afternoon inside this Upper West Side open arts studio, you’ll find kids and adults hard at work, creating soaps, candles, jewelry, and painted pottery. Make Meaning offers more than 100 private classes each month, and they have party packages for special events, from kid birthdays to adult soirees. High ceilings, track lighting, and exposed air ducts give the space a modern warehouse atmosphere, but the narrow shop space can make the place feel claustrophobic on busier days (some admit that it’s a nightmare on rainy weekends).
