Upper East Side
Magazine editors pull jewelry for shoots, and buyers from stores around the world discover new designers at this specialist in the latest adornments. Fragments may look small from the outside, but at any given time the two locations offer bling from 60 to 100 different designers, both established (Mizuki) and those just breaking out (Arman). The untraditional looks here aren't of the dripping-in-diamonds type: think gold vermeil and smoky quartz earrings and black onyx necklaces, with $100 pieces mixed in with five- and six-figure stunners. Men, take note: the Prince Street location specializes in one-of-a-kind wedding bands and engagement rings.
Tip: At both stores, many pieces are customizable, and the designers can be contacted to make unique items on order.
