Tortuguero
Miss Junie's
150 m north of Paraso Tropical
Tortuguero, 70205, Costa Rica
Miss Junie came to Totuguero from Nicaragua and brought her culinary expertise with her, which she channeled into establishing one of the best-known and longest-standing restaurants in the area. Fidel Castro and Che Guevara ate many of the same dishes that are still on the menu today—Caribbean specialties like jerk chicken, fish, and seafood served in coconut and ginger sauces over traditional rice and beans. No longer open-air, Miss Junie now uses air-conditioning to combat the tropical heat. Reservations are required.
Insider Tip:
With a bit of encouragement, Miss Junie and her family will serenade guests with traditional hymns, sometimes in three languages.
