Tobu-Ikebukuro
Tokyo, 171-8512, Japan
One of Japan's largest department stores (also one of the world's largest), Tobu is located atop the Ikebukuro subway station, with 15 stories above ground and 4 beneath. In addition to clothing, housewares, toys (including an entire floor devoted to Sanrio characters), Tobu is known for its food. The beer garden (open in summer) affords distant views of Mount Fuji, while the basement food hall or depachika (the world's largest) takes up two floors and features everything from French pastries to sushi to international beers. If that's not enough, there are also several other in-store restaurants.
Insider Tip:
Arrive at the store for its 10:00 am opening to watch uniformed staff perform an elaborate bowing ritual, thanking customers for coming.
