The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art is dedicated to displaying, preserving, and educating the public about African art. Located in a mostly underground building on the National Mall, the museum showcases work in a variety of media, including sculpture, painting, photography, and textiles. The permanent collection also contains more than 500 works from the celebrated Walt Disney-Tishman collection. Additional exhibits have included "Central Nigeria Unmasked: Arts of the Benue River Valley" and "African Mosaic: Celebrating a Decade of Collecting." Docent-led tours are available Wednesday through Sunday.
