Things to do in The Exumas
Visiting this part of the Bahamas is all about taking advantage of the dazzling ocean – so when you’re looking for things to do in the Exumas, look no further than the sapphire waters surrounding the cays. Lovers of water sports will find themselves in an aquatic paradise: You can easily spend all your time in the Exumas swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, sailing, kitesurfing, or fishing. Rent scuba gear with Dive Exuma, one of the region’s best dive operations, or lease a kayak or sailboat from Starfish. Starfish can also take you on a guided tour of beautiful Moirah Cay and Elizabeth Harbor and their surrounding beaches. Looking for a private slice of paradise? Take a couple hours to explore the uninhabited isles of Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park.
Landlubbers will also find plenty of things to do in the Exumas, from relaxing by the beach to dining on fresh seafood and knocking back drinks at one of the many beachside bars on Great Exuma and Little Exuma, the two largest islands in the chains. George Town, Great Exuma’s administrative center, also offers a number of tourist-friendly activities, including the strange sight of the pig roast at the Chat & Chill Bar & Grill, which happens every Sunday.
The first land-and-sea preserve in the world (it was established in 1959) encompasses 176 square miles of stunningly clear water, along with dozens of cays, islets, and beaches.
