Taormina
San Domenico Palace Hotel
Taormina, 98039, Italy
Previously a 15th-century monastery, the exclusive San Domenico Palace Hotel took on its current form in 1896, when the Prince of Cerami added a new Belle Époque wing. Set in a hilltop garden overlooking Taormina, the hotel retains original monastic elements such as two cloisters with stone columns and vine-covered walls. The 108 guest rooms are housed in either the restored convent or the main hotel wing, and most include high ceilings, 19th-century furniture, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the cloister, garden, or Ionian Sea. The property also has an outdoor pool and four restaurants, including the Michelin two-starred Principe Cerami.
Room to Book:
The sea views are among the hotel’s best features, making the superior rooms well worth the extra cost.
Insider Tip:
The hotel provides transfer to several nearby beaches, which are equipped with loungers, umbrellas, and towels; just be aware that there is a per-person entrance fee.
