Konak
Istanbul, Turkey
It’s neither as famous nor as trendy as other rooftop restaurants in the area (say, 360 or Mikla), but Konak’s views are just as exhilarating, and the food is hearty and cheap. Most of the menu is fairly basic (soups and sandwiches, chiefly), but the on-site bakery specializes in gooey, old-fashioned desserts like cakes stuffed with buttercream, bananas, caramel, jams, and chocolate. The sweets, combined with the panoramic views—over the Galata Tower, the Golden Horn, the five hills of old Istanbul, and the Bosporus—are compellingly seductive: if your date doesn’t succumb once you take her here, she’s just not that into you.
Insider Tip:
Pass on the pasta: Turkey is the land al dente forgot.
