Sydney Fish Market
Sydney, New South Wales, 2009, Australia
The Sydney Fish Market is the largest fish market in the Southern Hemisphere and sells nearly 14,500 tons of fish each year. Located inside a huge blue building on the waterfront, the market is home to six seafood retailers, as well as a bakery, gift shop, sushi bar, and several restaurants (outdoor seating is available beneath red-and-white umbrellas overlooking the water). Special events are on the calendar regularly, and behind the scenes tours are available. The market is also home to the Sydney Seafood School, a cooking school established in 1989 to promote the cooking and consumption of seafood.
