Surry Hills
Spice I Am
Sydney, New South Wales, 2010, Australia
Not far from the central business district, this tiny Surry Hills restaurant is renowned for its authentic Thai
cuisine. The brainchild of a former Thai Airways Catering employee, Spice I Am opened in 2004 and quickly became a small regional chain. At this flagship location, stained-wood furniture is scattered throughout the understated dining room, with additional sidewalk seating available during warm weather. The menu includes classic dishes like pad Thai and pla lard prik (deep-fried whole fish with homemade curry sauce). In addition to beverages like young coconut juice, the restaurant also has a BYO policy with no corkage fee.
Insider Tip:
If you plan to take advantage of the BYO policy, stop by the Oak Barrel—just a five-minute walk from the
restaurant—and pick up a rare, organic boutique wine.
