Stockholm hotels exhibit the minimalist Scandinavian flair that IKEA has popularized. The city is known for having expensive accommodations, but if you plan your trip right, you can take advantage of some great deals. Because most Swedes take a month’s vacation in July, business travel to the capital plummets that month, and as a result many hotels drop their rates.

Standouts among the city’s best properties include the Grand Hôtel and Ett Hem, which really does feel like a (very rich person’s) home. For peace and quiet that is still an easy walk from the city center, the Hotel Skeppsholmen is hard to beat, or head to the Nobis Hotel if you want to be in the heart of everything.
