Stockholm
Moderna Museet
The Moderna Museet, on the island of Skeppsholmen, is home to an extensive collection of modern and contemporary paintings, sketches, photography, films, and videos from Sweden and the international arts community. The brick industrial-style building with large windows overlooking the bay was designed by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo, and vividly colored outdoor sculptures fill the gardens. Permanent exhibits feature works from Henri Matisse, Salvador Dali, Marcel Duchamp, and Pablo Picasso, including his piece The Spring. There are also temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
Insider Tip:
The museum restaurant overlooks Djurgarden and Strandvagen and serves reasonably priced Swedish cuisine.
