Peter and Sue Hua Newton established Newton Vineyards in 1977 on one-square mile of tumbling slopes on Spring Mountain overlooking St. Helena. Though now owned by European company Moët-Hennessy, the Newtons still manage the gardens of their former estate. Guests can visit the winery, Tuesday through Sunday, by appointment only with groups of 12 or less. Tours include a walk through the notable gardens and caves below, ending with a tasting of their popular Red Label and unfiltered wines.
Insider Tip:
Considered illegal by present Napa laws, Newton’s steep vineyards along Spring Mountain were grandfathered in before the laws changed.
