Poseidonion Grand Hotel

Dapia, Spetses, Greece
TEL: 30-22980-74553

The story of this island hotel is rags to riches: After making millions in Turkish manufacturing, the local owner returned to the small Greek island of Spetses, determined to give his hometown a grandiose gift. The result: the waterfront, neoclassical Poseidonion Grand Hotel—now easily accessible on a 90-minute ferry ride from Athens to the new Dapia port and harbor. Today, the Mediterranean Sea views are still the trump card, best seen from private, cast-iron balconies in the 26 rooms. Inside, muted furnishings allow the classic architecture to take center stage (case in point: the dramatic, free-standing marble staircase). Artisan-tile flooring and antique sculptures—especially those in the games room and the Library Bar brasserie—are artistic reminders of the hotel’s history.

Room to Book:

The two-story Cupola Suite has a private terrace and a wood ceiling that resembles a traditional Greek kaiki (a traditional wooden boat).

Insider Tip:

Weekends are busy with visitors from Athens; ask the concierge for a handheld GPS to help you find quiet trails and secluded beaches.
