Southwest Harbor
Kingsleigh Inn
Southwest Harbor, ME, 04679, United States
The eight-room, Queen Anne Victorian inn dates from 1904 and was purchased by Pamela Parker and Bryan Stevens back in 2010. The establishment opens in mid-May and overlooks Southwest Harbor on Maine’s Mount Desert Island. Common areas include a living room with a fireplace, a lounge area where Lavazza Espresso is available 24 hours a day, and a main dining room decorated with framed photography. Guest rooms are simply appointed with period furnishings and ceiling fans, and a few have balconies with views of the harbor. The inn’s kitchen serves breakfast, afternoon snacks, and evening hors d’oeuvres, including port and cinnamon poached pears with vanilla crème fraiche, fresh-baked cinnamon rolls, and chocolate caramel fudge brownies.
Room to Book:
The Kingsleigh Penthouse Turret Suite is the best appointed room, with a telescope, flat-screen TV and gas fireplace. Otherwise, rooms facing the harbor are the most desirable, including the Hawthorne, the Abbott and the Chelsea.
Insider Tip:
Mount Desert Island is also home to Acadia National Park, New England’s only national park, which features a scenic, 20-mile Park Loop Road, guided boat cruises and hikes, and horse-drawn carriage rides.
