Situated on the border of SoHo and Little Italy, Despana is a café and gourmet food boutique specializing in Spanish cuisine. The black shelves are packed with cookbooks and the finest olive oils, vinegars and preserves from Spain. At the back counter, diners can order freshly made bocadillos (sandwiches), pintxos (tiny Basque-style appetizers) or tapas like chorizo a la sidra, a Spanish sausage in cider sauce. A small seating area is available for dining in, but food can also be made to go. There is a selection of coffee and homemade desserts, and at the front deli counter, shoppers can select from more than 50 specialty cheeses or order cured meats like Iberico ham.
