Shanghai
Xinjiang Fengwei Restaurant
The Uighur people bring their northwest Chinese flavors to this glass-fronted restaurant. Chinese Western Muslim music sets the rowdy atmosphere inside; the singing and dancing waiters occasionally also dance with diners. Muslim influence makes lamb a keystone of the menu, which includes such dishes as kao quanyang (a whole roasted lamb). Other options include kao yangrou (barbecue lamb skewers) and da pan ji, a chicken dish with potatoes, onions, and peppers. Baked bread and noodles accompany the mains, and it all washes down with a bottle of Xinjiang black beer.
Insider Tip:
The Xuhui District is a major shopping destination in Shanghai, and this restaurant is within 10 minutes of both the Pacific Department Store and Grand Gateway Shanghai shopping center.
