Shanghai
Langham Yangtze Boutique
Within a 10-minute walk of the People's Square, this Art Deco hotel originally opened in the central business district in 1934. Today, the white exterior is lined with sconce-like light fixtures, while the lobby is decorated with a painted glass ceiling and a grand curving staircase. Inspired by 1930's Shanghai, most of the 96 guest rooms include gilt mirrors, black-and-white photos of Art Deco structures, and a private terrace or balcony. The property also contains a spa, a cocktail bar, and four restaurants, including a branch of Hong Kong's Michelin two-starred T'ang Court, which serves authentic Cantonese cuisine.
Room to Book:
Some rooms face neighboring buildings and are very dark; if you prefer natural lighting, request a room with an open view of the street.
Insider Tip:
When dining at T'ang Court, opt for the set menus, which are much more reasonably priced than the á la carte menu.
