Ballard hosts the one-two punch of hot noodle house Thaiku, and its late-night, apothecary-style bar, Fu Kun Wu Lounge. Thaiku’s regional Thai cuisine is doled out in an antiques-filled space that was once the location of a notorious opium den. Pad Thai is a reliable choice, as is the northern Thai-Burmese dish, khao soi, filled with fried egg noodles and chicken in a coconut-flavored, yellow curry broth. Fu Kun Wu’s inventive cocktails are served in a converted Chinese-herbalist shop. Jars of seahorses and bones left over by the previous tenant, create a cabinet-of-curiousities vibe, the perfect backdrop for live jazz.
