Before textese there was shorthand, and Shorthand Press lovingly celebrates the elegant, cursive characters of this obscure written English, on greeting cards, postcards, notebooks, and tees. Commonly used by midcentury secretaries and paralegals, the form languished in recent decades. Seattle native Erin Healy is doing what she can to draw attention to this heirloom text, punching up shirts with the one-character symbols for "crafty" and "unruly," (along with translation). Simple and elegant Many Thanks cards, are versatile stationery staples. But the cotton baby onesies steal the show, with their gender-neutral, kelly-green "Peanut."
