Like Santa Fe and Carmel, Scottsdale is an artists’ colony known for its collection of contemporary-painting galleries. Its Western-themed sculptures are typified by the magnificent bronze horses that gallop around fountains and roundabouts in Old Town. The city is equally well known for Native American art, with a strong selection of contemporary work at Bischoff’s Gallery, ceramics at King Gallery, and treasure troves of vintage handiworks from the Hopi, Zuni, and Navajo tribes at John C. Hill Gallery. Silverwork and turquoise are a key component of the Scottsdale wardrobe, and there are scores of jewelers where you can pick up an armful of cuff bracelets or dazzling belt buckles. Cowboy accessories—including a massive collection of boots—can be found at Saba’s. There are also plenty of shopping options for the more metropolitan type. Stop by the carefully curated collection of women’s wear at the Old Town boutique Stephanie’s or one of the hundreds of stores, including major luxury brands, at the massive Scottsdale Fashion Square
