Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella

Along with Loretta Caponi, this antique pharmacy—in a frescoed side-chapel of the Santa Maria Novella church—is one of the most gorgeous shops in Florence. Founded by Dominican friars in 1612, its 17th-century cabinets hold a mix of balms, tinctures, liqueurs, teas, infusions, and powders, including “Skin Whitening Powder” and “Virgin’s Milk Skin Cream.” Don’t miss the hand-molded soaps made with mint, pomegranate, or milk and aged for 60 days in ventilated cabinets. The pharmacy also organizes guided tours (reservations necessary).
