1317 State St., Santa Barbara, CA 93101

The Arlington Theatre resides in the center of downtown’s main drag and evokes another era, complete with Mission Revival architecture and red seats surrounded by yellow Spanish-style “villas” that form the walls. The grand theater rose from the rubble of the Arlington Hotel, which a 1925 earthquake leveled. The 2,000-seat Arlington still hosts movie screenings, plus comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, performances by the L.A. Philharmonic and around the holidays, The Nutcracker ballet. It's also one of the key destinations during February’s Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which takes place every winter and draws more than 70,000 visitors to the city.
