Considering the small waves and cool climate, Butterfly Beach isn’t exactly a destination for surfers or sunbathers, but the palm-lined stretch of shore in Santa Barbara’s most affluent neighborhood–Montecito–certainly holds appeal for people who want to dip their feet in the surf. The beach is runner-friendly, conducive to sand castle construction and an easy escape for pedestrians in Montecito’s nearby village. Plus, dogs can run sans leash here. Stop into the iconic Four Seasons Biltmore resort for a classic cocktail, such as a Manhattan or Gin Fizz, and then stroll this west-facing beach during sunset.
Santa Barbara beaches are prone to tar balls, so wear old shoes in lieu of a barefoot stroll.
