San Pedro
Bosque de Paz Private Ecological Reserve & Lodge
Located in a 3,000-acre biological corridor, this privately owned lodge is designed to promote ecological preservation and environmentally conscious tourism. The lodge has only 12 guest rooms and incorporates eco-friendly practices, such as recycling and tree-planting programs. Surrounded by hummingbird and wild orchid gardens, the guest rooms include high timber ceilings, Costa Rican pottery, and private balconies overlooking the jungle. The on-site restaurant serves authentic local cuisine, and possible activities range from yoga classes to guided nature hikes through the forest, which is home to sloths, howler monkeys, coatis, and more than 300 species of bird.
Room to Book:
For the quietest stay, book one of the two rooms above the reception area; the other rooms are housed together in one thin-walled building adjacent to the restaurant.
Insider Tip:
The rooms are not heated, and nights are often chilly at the high-altitude lodge, so bring plenty of warm clothing.
