Built from two neighboring Colonial-style homes, the aptly-named Dos Casas mixes modern interiors with a Colonial-era structure. Owner Alberto Laposse is an architect and baker who trained in France.(He also established Cumpanio, arguably San Miguel's best bakery.) In harmony with his own personal tastes, Dos Casas feels like Europe even as you're aware of being in Mexico. The large rooms get lots of light, have polished cedar floors, fine art and photographs, and mid-century furniture. The Del Jardín room overlooks the garden, and Del Fuente opens to the patio courtyard with a running stone fountain, but La Terraza is the one to score—the top-floor suite has a private outdoor terrace, with a whirlpool, and the best views of the city. The presence of the spa and Aperi restaurant downstairs should seal the deal. There are eleven rooms in the main facility and a separate house just down the street for larger groups.
