Tucked in a corner of the Civic Center, the Soluna Cafe and Lounge is but a short walk to the Golden Gate Theater and venues for the San Francisco Opera, Ballet, and Symphony. Soluna's long, narrow bar/dining area, cozy banquettes, and earthy color scheme combine to create an intimate ambience. Chef Francis Hogan's seasonal menus favor organic, all-natural, and sustainable ingredients, with reliable comfort foods like four-cheese-and-pancetta macaroni and cheese and a burger made from house-ground beef combined with applewood-smoked bacon. The early happy hour (starts at 3 p.m.) gives groups plenty of time for a pre-show cocktail and appetizers.
The bar manager, Matthew Norris, is both a skilled mixologist and artist, and his paintings are frequently displayed at Soluna.
