This La Jolla restaurant is known for serving farm fresh, everything-made-from-scratch bistro fare. Despites its minimalist wood façade outside, inside Whisknladle has a monochromatic chocolate brown palate with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and wicker chairs. Chef Ryan Johnston cooks his self-styled “gourmet comfort food” with ingredients from local organic farms and sustainable protein sources. Favorites include the house-cured charcuterie, charred bone marrow, and crispy sweetbreads. Drink specials and affordable Mediterranean-inspired tapas dishes are available daily from 5 to 7 p.m.

Dessert items change daily at Whisknladle so as to feature local seasonal ingredients at the peak of flavor. Even ice creams and sorbets are churned by hand here.
