The Gaslamp Quarter’s Red Pearl Kitchen is a romantic Pan-Asian fusion restaurant by boutique restaurateurs Tim and Liza Goodell. A humungous and intricately carved red chair sits at the entrance in stylized contrast to the unassuming slate exterior.
Tidal at the Paradise Point Resort is a bayfront restaurant serving modern American cuisine. Water views are the most notable feature of the dining room, with windows and glass doors that open to a tropical outdoor patio.
The multilevel lounge serves Southeast Asian fare.
Located in downtown’s Little Italy district, Indigo Grill has a dull entrance, but the dark distressed wood floor and a yellow stone-covered exhibition kitchen give this industrial interior space charm and warmth. The menu is mostly Southwestern cuisine with Italian influences.

The Australian restaurant and bar opened in the Fall of 2006.
El Cuervo is a popular mom-and-pop taco shop in an aging Hillcrest strip mall. The red tile roof and neon sign outside signal the casual interior with heavy wooden tables and chairs and a blue-and-white tiled kitchen.
Swinging London-inspired space
Situated on a pastoral hill at Carmel Valley’s Grand Del Mar Resort, Addison has the unassuming stone entrance of a rural Tuscan mansion. Inside, the elegant décor features marble columns, gold leaf accents, sumptuous carpets, and gleamig chandeliers.
A meal at El Agave Tequileria is more about the thousands of fine sipping tequilas, although the Nouvelle Mexican cuisine provides a complementary range of new and ancient Hispanic dishes. The restaurant’s Old Town address and downstairs liquor store do not portend the old Spanish interior.
