Trevi Fountain
Flocks of tourist visiting the Eternal City come to throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain in the Campo Marzio neighborhood. This famous fountain was designed by Nicolo Salvi and completed in 1762; it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and is a supreme example of the style. Oceanus reigns triumphant from a seashell chariot while his sons, the Tritons, lead hippocamps. One hippocamp is calm while the other is restless, a reflection of the sea's tempestuous moods. Just after sunset, the crowds tend to thin out.
Insider Tip:
With the overcrowding, you should be aware of pick-pockets at the fountain.
