Once a place for upper-class homes, the neighborhood of Santa Teresa has recently been revived as a cultural hot spot. Artists' studios and galleries dot the winding cobblestone streets that hover at the top of Santa Teresa hill. And museums devoted to local lore such as the historic Santa Teresa Tram and one-time resident, art collector Raimundo Otoni Castro Maya. And as with all gentrified areas, upscale cafés are moving in, along with the city's only Relais & Chateaux property, Hotel Santa Teresa.
