Rio de Janeiro
The family has run restaurants in São Paulo since 1902, and a fourth-generation member of the Fasanos heads the Italian fare and classically styled dining room at Gero. Outside, the single-story brick building looks rather basic. But inside, the same exposed brick and the wooden floors give the space an old charm, while cane back chairs, white table clothes, and the bar feel more contemporary. In addition to freshly made pastas, the menu could include osso bucco with mushroom stew or foie gras-stuffed lamb. For dessert, the favorite choice is the house-made tiramisu.
You can also stay at a Fasano-run hotel, about five minutes away by taxi.
