Sleek geeks meet at the gleaming bar of the Park, Hyderabad, a new hotel with a terrace that overlooks the lake in the center of town.
The 12-room property, on Havelock Island, part of India’s Andaman archipelago, is reached by ferry from Port Blair. This is an oasis of style in the region: hand-carved beds, dark wood ceilings, rattan wall hangings. The menu at the open-air restaurant changes daily.
The safari lodge with 18 tented suites sits in the bamboo forests of Madhya Pradesh, a four-hour drive from Jabalpur. Created by one of India’s top architects, Sanjay Prakash, each tent has bamboo floors, solar-powered heated pools, and traditional artwork from nearby Chattisgarh.
You’ll trade your car for a horse and carriage at the gate of the Taj Falaknuma Palace, which crowns a hill above the city, and be showered with rose petals when you ascend the marble steps.
The 19 cottages are filled with teak furniture sourced from renewable forests, and the showers have skylights and are open to the elements. A short path through the mahua trees leads to Beach No. 7, where you can stroll along the white sand or swim with Rajan, the resort’s resident elephant.
