Piazza del Duomo, Ravello, , Italy

Ravello’s cathedral has an impressive pedigree, dating back to 1087, the year after Ravello was granted its own bishopric. Its otherwise plain façade features a set of spectacular Romanesque bronze doors, cast in 1179 by Barisano da Trani, depicting Christ surrounded by seated saints and warriors in 54 worn schiacciato relief panels. Flanking the gently sloping nave is a pair of exquisite, Byzantine-style, 12th-century pulpits, each covered in intricate inlaid stonework and mosaics depicting biblical scenes and fantastical creatures.
