Punta Gorda
Cotton Tree Lodge
Moho River
Punta Gorda, Belize

Belize discovered Chris Crowell, instead of vice versa, as the resort’s founder was drawn to the country after passing through in the late 1970’s. Almost thirty years, a sailing business, and the discovery of an enormous cotton tree later, the eco-lodge opened in 2007 and now has 100 acres with 11 cabanas. Boardwalks connect the cabanas, which range from the Standard to a 1,000-square-foot two-bedroom cabana. Thatched roofs, wooden floors, and Mayan-influenced linens fill the interiors of the elevated rooms, many of which have Moho river views. Meals are family style at the restaurant, which emphasizes locally-sourced ingredients.
Room to Book:
The 2-person, 300-square-foot Jungle Cabana was conceived for more adventurous guests, as it's located in the middle of the jungle, almost a quarter of a mile from the main resort grounds.
Insider Tip:
The resort can help chocolate-lovers arrange tours of cacao farms in the nearby villages of San Felipe and San Pedro Columbia.
