Garza Blanca’s 79 hotel rooms and suites are some of the largest in Puerto Vallarta, all with dark wood furnishings, high-tech touches (iPod docking stations and flat-screen TVs), and boldly colored accents such as bright orange pillows and turquoise bed throws. Most have ocean views and terraces with woven hammocks, and in some cases, floor-to-ceiling sliding-glass doors open completely, creating an indoor-outdoor experience. The rest of the Garza Blanca property is an adult playground (though kids are perfectly happy splashing around in the infinity pool): the Hamara Spa has water therapy and relaxation rooms, the hotel’s private beach bar offers happy-hour deals, and the superb restaurant, Bianca Blue, is known among locals as one of the best in the city for its seafood dishes and extensive wine cellar. Best of all, in late spring whales can be spotted in the Pacific from guest-room balconies.
