In the city with the highest concentration of bookstores on Cape Cod, this tiny shop stands out for its wide selection and long history, which dates back to 1932. The former workplace of famed filmmaker and author John Waters, the store is housed in a weathered white building with hardwood floors and large, black-framed windows stacked with bestsellers. The shop carries mostly new books, including fiction, children’s books, cookbooks, poetry collections, and Cape Cod—related volumes. Also available are scores from the Dover Opera and sheet music for lutes and viols.
After browsing the bookshop, walk to nearby Cabot’s Candy Store—open since 1927—and pick up some homemade fudge and saltwater taffy in flavors like raspberry, cranberry, peach, and almond.
