Presidio
Ecology Trail
San Francisco, 94129, United States
Leading down from Inspiration Point in the Presidio National Park is the 1.4-mile Ecology Trail. Used as a refugee camp after the 1906 earthquake, the surrounding landscape features a redwood grove, serpentine grasslands, and from May until August, the small pink blooms of the endangered Presidio clarkia flower. Occasional glimpses of the San Francisco Bay and the Palace of Fine Arts are visible through the trees. Also, a spur trail connects to a picnic area at El Polin Springs, where fresh water bubbles from a rock wall. Free activity guides are available for children at the park’s visitor center.
Insider Tip:
Inspiration Point offers free parking that puts you right at the top of the trail.
