Prague Castle dominates the city skyline as it has since the year 880. The national symbol is a UNESCO World Heritage site, the largest castle complex in the world encompassing 18 acres. Over the centuries wars, fires, and renovations, along with changing political campaigns created a network of three courtyards and numerous buildings including Saint Vitus Cathedral (home to the crown jewels and relics of Bohemian kings and saints), the Old Royal Palace, and Basilica of St. George, as well as fortifications, museums, art galleries, gardens, and a monastery. It's is the official residence of the president of the Republic.
Daytime tours are popular and available in many languages for a fee. Check for times. The Castle is well lit in the evening and the grounds are free.
