Hotels in Portofino

You won't find a wide range of hotels in Portofino, but what you will find is gorgeously luxe. If you're on a budget, think about the off-season, or at least staying in nearby towns such as Santa Margherita. But if you’re ready to splurge, try the best hotels in Portofino.

Built in 1920, The Hotel Splendido is the ultimate Portofino hotel. It started out as a monastery in the 16th century, but as a plush, modern-day hotel it has hosted more than a few VIPs (say, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Catherine Deneuve). Even if you don’t stay here, it’s a marvelous place to sit in the bar and sip a tintoretto. Once a private residence, the Grand Hotel Miramare is an art-nouveau hotel in Santa Margherita outfitted with a saltwater swimming pool and rooms with jaw-dropping views over the sea. The Eight Hotel Portofino is a Portofino hotel with a modern design aesthetic built into two 19th-century townhouses. It has a garden, a hot tub, and easy walking distance to the harbor and the Piazzetta.

More than a few VIP's (the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Catherine Deneuve) have signed the visitor's book at this Portofino hotel. Originally a 16th-century monastery, the property was transformed into 69 guest rooms (16 at the more affordable Splendido Mare), three restaurants, and two bars.
