Appropriately named after a region that straddles France and Spain, chef John Taboada’s restaurant in central Portland sources seasonal produce from the Avenue Farms CSA to derive Italian, French, and Spanish specials, but it also spotlights specific regions like Lyon 47th throughout the year. The core menu includes parchment-wrapped trout with pepper and rosemary, and boneless pork loin with paprika, oregano, thyme, and garlic. Navarre has as many as 70 wines on the list, most available by the glass. Seating options include a bar, two- and four-tops, and one large table that can be communal or for groups.
Navarre is a short walk from the Laurelhurst Theater, and since the restaurant’s open nightly until at least 10:30 p.m., serves as a viable pairing either before or after an indie film.
