Part of Mike and Brian McMenamin’s growing restaurant and brewpub chain, this distillery just south of Portland’s Troutdale Airport occupies a former dry shed for storing vegetables on the old Edgefield estate. Through a wall of antique, etched windows taken from old English inns, guests can watch the 12-foot copper still churn out small batches of artisan whiskey, scotch, brandy, and gin, most of which can be sampled or bought, straight or mixed, at the adjacent bar. The handsome back countertop dates to Prohibition times, while the front came from an alder tree on the property that fell victim to an ice storm.
