Bar Plan B

Though Montreal after dark used to mean La Calèche du Sexe and other such red-light joints downtown, the city’s nightlife is now centered around bars instead of poles. The indisputable heart of it is the Plateau, and the neighborhood (especially along Boulevard Saint-Laurent) can get a little frenetic at night. But this convivial bar—a favorite among the city’s restaurateurs—transcends. Black leather couches and stools give the spare wooden space a loungelike air, and out back, there’s a narrow little garden where you can sip your digestif among vines and flowering bushes (and under heat lamps, should the Montreal weather prove uncooperative).
